Lieu de décès : Deepdale
Date de décès : 13 septembre 201

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Hugh ‘Rory Archie’ Archibald MacLennan, 90, on Sept. 13, 2014, at his home in Deepdale, with family by his side.
Born in Dunvegan, Inverness County on Oct. 25, 1923, he was a son of the late Rory Archie and Katie (MacDougall) MacLennan.
He enlisted with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and saw action in Belgium, Holland and Germany in the Second World War. He remained a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Inverness Branch 132, until his death.
On May 17, 1948 he married our beautiful mother, Sally MacKinnon and together they raised a family of ten children: eight boys and two girls. He instilled in his children the strong values of honesty, loyalty and hard work, which he learned from his own parents. To provide for his large family, of whom he was very proud, Dad drove the snowplow for several years, while continuing his work as a carpenter.
Hughie had a great respect for the church and was faithful to his prayer life. A very proud moment and a testament to Dad's character occurred in 1977, when he received a visitor from his war days. During the war, while on a posting in Amsterdam, Dad befriended a young teen, Ferdinand DeWilde, who remembering the name Hugh MacLennan, Dunvegan, N.S., sought out Dad when he was the Consul-general of Belgium to Canada.
In retirement Dad spent many peaceful hours mowing his property, always keeping it very tidy. In 2007, Dad lost his beloved Sally and, although his heart was fragile, his desire was to remain at home for the rest of his days. Fortunately, he was able to do so, only requiring full-time care during the past year.
Our family is thankful to Home Care, and for the wonderful care provided by Geraldine MacFarlane and Sylvia MacIsaac during this time.
He is survived by his children, daughters, Sandra (Paul) Bugden, Bedford, Margaret, Calgary; sons, Roddie (Marian), Halifax, Steve (Margie), N.E. Margaree, John (Monica), Blues Mills, Jerry (Colleen), Saint John; Father Danny, Guysborough, Bruce (Laura), Oakville. Also surviving are his sister, Florence MacLellan, Antigonish-South West Margaree and his brother, Angus, Toronto. Also, he is fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Katie (Vincent), Angus, Margaret, Aaron (Tammy), Shawn, Shawna (Blair), Sarah, Andrea, Michael (Leslie), Ellen, Kathleen, Cheryl (David), Bryan and Brenda; and great-granddaughters, Kenzie and Claire.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years Sally (2007), sons, Alexander (1990), Gus (1993), grandson, Brendan (2002), his sisters, Margaret Hopkins, Betty MacLennan, Teresa Potter, Mary Jessie Gillis, Lexina, and brother, Father Alex.
Visitation will be held in Inverness Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. with his son Fr. Danny MacLennan and parish priest Fr. Duncan MacIsaac, officiating.
Donations may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Parish Cemetery Fund, Broad Cove or Central Inverness Palliative Care Society to whom we are very grateful.
Online condolences may be made to www.invernessfuneralhome.com.
