It is with saddened hearts that we are announcing the sudden passing of Vernon Pettigrew, Vernon passed away Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his family by his side.
Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Vela and Annie (Bauld) Hebert.
Vernon was a care free person who will be remembered as a painter, having painted numerous homes in the New Waterford area over the years, he also enjoyed doing carpentry work, often saying “He was a jack of all trades, but a master of none”.
In the 1960s he travelled with The Bill Lynch Show for several years, where he made many friends, giving him years of memories and these stories he would talk about in his daily conversations. He also enjoyed the time spent with his friend John Aucoin playing cards.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Lisa (Darren); son, Joseph (Allison). Vernon is also survived by three beautiful grandchildren, Breanna, and Calvin Bradley and Josie Power; all of New Waterford.
Besides his parents, Vernon was also predeceased by his wife Theresa (Power).
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral service will be celebrated 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, River Ryan..
As an expression of sympathy for Vernon, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
