It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the sudden but peaceful passing of George Freeman MacKenzie, on Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, while visiting family in Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay in 1957, he was the son of Mrs. Annie May MacKenzie [Green] and the late Mr. Melvin James MacKenzie.
George was a devoted father and will be lovingly remembered by his children, Scott (Courtney), Susan (Wade) and Karen, all residing in Alberta, and by his precious grandson, Logan, who was his pride and joy.
Along with his mother, George will be sadly missed by his siblings, Melva, Christene (Hugh), Kathy (Ray), Jimmy and Cheryl (Gary), as well as by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
George enjoyed building and repairing things and became a millwright by trade. He was well known for his wit and humour and was greatly loved by all who knew him. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandson, Logan. George was also a loving and devoted son to his mother, whom he loved dearly.
George was predeceased by his father, Melvin James MacKenzie; his maternal grandparents, George and Mary Bessie Green and by his paternal grandparents, Donald and Christina MacKenzie.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 in V. J McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment will take place in Black Brook Cemetery, Port Morien, with his father, Melvin James. Rev. Donald MacDonald will officiate.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
