NEW GLASGOW – Cheryle Marie Thomas, 69, New Glasgow, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord, Thursday, October 16, 2014 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born June 2, 1945 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Rev. H. Donald and Aleta G. (MacLean) Thomas. Cheryle attended schools in New Glasgow before attending the former United Baptist Bible Training School, Moncton, N.B. She lived in various places during her adult life, including, Halifax, Boston, Mass., Houston, Texas and Elmhurst, Illinois. Cheryle was employed with several companies, AT & T, Boston and Hematology Tech II Department, Southwest Memorial Hospital, Houston. She was a lady who possessed a strong faith from an early age. She was a member of Second United Baptist Church, New Glasgow where in her youth she was involved in Sunday School, Mission Band, CGIT, BYPU and Junior Choir. Cheryle served as deaconess at The Life Giving Word Cathedral, Elmhurst, for many years. She was a talented pianist, gladly sharing her gift of music in church ministries. Cheryle was a talented artist whose work centered on African and abstract art, which she created using various mediums.
Surviving are her daughter, Tanya Locks-Crossley and her children, Dominique and Azaria, Houston, Texas; step-daughter, Nicole (Demario) Evans and her children, Asia and Thai’Lin, Chicago, Illinois; sisters, Carolyn (Lee) Wilson, Knob Noster, Missouri; Joy Bennett, New Glasgow; Sharma (Allan) Paris, Truro; Jan (Peter) Thomas-Giles, Dartmouth; brothers, Raymond (Janie) Thomas, Dartmouth; Bryan Thomas, Sackville, N.B.; aunt, Maude MacLean, New Glasgow; cousins, Glenda (Eugene) Jones, New Glasgow; Scott (Gloria) MacLean, New Glasgow; Yvonne Moyer, Nanaimo, B.C.; special friends, Aleta Williams, New Glasgow; Anthony Cooney, Atlanta, Georgia; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sister, Lorraine in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Second United Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Morley Shaw officiating. Private burial in Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow at a later date.
Cheryle’s family wish to thank Pictou County VON, Dr. Peter Lee, Aberdeen Hospital fourth floor staff and Palliative Care staff for the care she received. Special thanks to April Weston for her daily care of Cheryle.
