HAWKINS, R. PAULINE - The family is saddened to announce the sudden passing of R. Pauline Hawkins at her home in Millville, NB on October 19, 2014. Pauline was born in Dumfries, NB on March 28, 1919 to Allan and Queenie (Hanson) Ellegood. She was a devoted wife to the late Maurice Kipling Hawkins, and a loving, caring mother to sons, Allan S. Hawkins (Wanda), Millville, NB and Floyd E. Hawkins (Gladys), Rothesay, NB. She is also survived by a brother, Edison Ellegood, Millville, NB; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Ellegood and his wife, Joyce; a sister-in-law, Joyce Ellegood and by a special friend and sister-in-law, Janice Hawkins. Pauline graduated from Normal School in Fredericton in 1933. She had an extended teaching career, having taught in and around the Millville area. In her career, she had the challenge of teaching grades 1 to 8 in a one room school house. In her younger years, she was a member of the Hawkins Corner Ladies Aid. She was an avid reader, knitter and kept her mind keen by doing crossword puzzles. Pauline was a member of the Millville Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian, enjoying her daily Bible readings and faithfully watching her favorite religious programs on TV. She was blessed by the devotion and thoughtfulness shown to her by relatives, friends and neighbours. The family would like to thank the many who have helped and looked out for her in her later years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hawkins Corner Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Thursday from 3 to 7 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Millville Baptist Church, Millville, NB on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. Don MacDougall officiating, assisted by Rev. Derek Langille and Rev. Stephen Hoyt. Interment at Hawkins Corner Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church. www.flewellingswan.com
