With broken hearts, we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, William 'Bill' Frederick Sweet , 71, on Oct. 30, 2014, at home with his family at his side.
Bill is survived by his wife, Dawn (Nichol) Sweet, whom he loved dearly and who remained at his side to the very end. He is survived by his children, Dawn (Jerome) Kehoe, Darlene (Vance) Macdonald, Laura Sweet, April Sweet, Kenny (Jade) Gallant, Walter Gallant and Kathy Sweet; grandchildren, Tyler, Vance, Cassady, Nicholas, Desire, Brittany, Justin, Elaine, Laura Dawn, Michael and Kayla; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Eli, Emilee, Lucas and Mya. He is also survived by his sisters, Alvert, Bernice, June, Christina and Patty; brothers, Albert and Lester. And numerious nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, William Frederick Sweet and Daphne Lillian Hull, he was also predeceased by his son, William 'Billy' Alexander Sweet.
Bill worked for Harris & Harris for 43 yrs. as a heavy machine operator, which he took pride in his work, from maneuvering the green machine paving our city streets to the L90, ploughing and snow removal. After Harris & Harris closed its doors, Bill worked a short time for Municipal Ready Mix then Kyle’s Paving, when he retired at age 67.
Up to the time of his illness, Bill was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting, fishing and work in his yard. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family - especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly and of whom he was very proud. When he did relax, he loved to watch the old westerns, especially John Wayne.
We the family would like to thank Dr. Glenn Worth for making sure dad had the best possible care with every hurdle he faced, for the compassion and professionalism, we are forever grateful. To Mary Ruth “Vasselo” Joseph, RN with Palliative Care Society for her unconditional care with dad and her words of comfort, she was a blessing! To City Home Makers and VON and a special "Thank you" to Bev Hayes, Carrie Marman and Sherrie Nugent, for all that they did for our family during this difficult time.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2014 at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexander St., Sydney. Funeral service will be on Nov. 3, 2014 at 11 a.m., reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers we, the family, would request in Bill’s memory, that donations be made to the Palliative Care Society.
