Douglas William Carey
It is with great sadness that the family of the Douglas William Carey age 65 of Amherst announce his sudden passing on Friday, October 31, 2014 at home.
Born in Wolfville, NS, he was a son of the William and Rachel (Harvey) “Smith” Carey.
Doug was very athletic and in his younger years he was involved in many sports including basketball and baseball and hockey which carried on into his adult life.
He worked in the farm feed industry for 40 years retiring in June of 2014 and had a special interest in and provided continued support to the local 4-H Clubs.
Doug was a proud Papa to his three princesses.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 41 years Nanette (Rogers), sons Bryan of Oromocto, NB and Scott (Carla) of Truro, NS, three granddaughters Emma, Abigail and Ama, brother Joe Smith (Ginger) of Wolfville, NS and sisters Eva D’Crus (Joe) of Almonte, ON, Ekie (Eric) Payne of Mississauga, ON, and Bonna Hyde of Charlottetown, PEI, his mother in law Eleanor Rogers of Wolfville, NS and many many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents Tex and Rachel he was predeceased by brothers Hugh, Merle, Vance, Jerry and Sonny Smith sisters Verna Murphy and Betty Williams.
There will be no funeral service but visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906).
A private interment will take place on Thursday, November 6th in Hortonville and a time of fellowship and refreshments will be held at 2 p.m. in the Avonport Baptist Church.
Family flowers only.
