Towner, Foster Wellington, age 95, of Barrington, formerly of Halifax, passed away peacefully on November 14, 2014 at the Bay Side Nursing Home, Barrington with family by his side. Born in Thomasville, Shelburne County, he was the son of the late Bernard & Iza Towner. He had a long and active life. He was a member of St. Mary’s & Wanderers Lawn Bowling clubs in Halifax, winning several Provincial titles and representing N.S. at the national level. He belonged to the Mayflower Curling Club where he became a proud member of “the 8 enders” club. In later years he enjoyed curling at the Barrington Curling Club as well. He followed hockey and baseball and to the end was an avid Blue Jays fan. Music brought him great enjoyment whether it be singing with the Sound of Men Choir, attending a Blue Grass gathering with his harmonicas in hand or just listening to his radio. He was a 3rd degree knight with the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1097 and a devout Catholic. He is survived by his daughter, Dianne (Robert) Price; sons, Clifford (Bertha), Robert (Paulette), & David; grandchildren, Lesley, Andrea, Jennifer, Peter, & Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Callum, Gregor, Xander, Maia, Vaughan, Carson, & Camryn; sister in law, Leyola McDonald, brother and sister in law, Roddie & Shirley Robertson & many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his very good friend, Queenie Atwood. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife of 45 years, Bertha (Robertson) Towner and sister, Anna Young . A special thank-you to all at Bay Side Home & Dr. Yee for the excellent care and attention he received while living there and for the compassion and consideration shown to the family at this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington on Thursday, Nov. 20th from 3-6p.m. Funeral mass was at St. Theresa’s Church in Halifax on Friday at 11:00 am.
