George E. “Bud” Abell, age 81 of Falmouth, Hants County, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick on January 22, 1933, he was a son of the late Claude and Margaret (Irving) Abell. Bud joined the RCMP in October 1952 and served 36 years retiring in 1988 with rank of Staff Sergeant. He was District Governor of Gyro in 1990 and International President in 1996/97. He was past president of the Avon Valley Golf Course. He was a member of the Nova Scotia RCMP Veteran's Association. Bud’s hobbies included golf, curling, traveling and playing bridge. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Geraldine “Gerry” (Mills) Abell; sons, Richard (Pam) Abell, Falmouth; Gary (Donna) Abell, Sussex, N.B.; daughters, Heather (Brad) Shears, Kippens, Nfld. and Karen (Terry) Dykens, Kentville; grandchildren, Sara, Tyler, Ryan, Matthew, Kayla, Nicole, Samantha and Katlyn; sister, Norma (Bill) Lutes, St. Thomas, N.B. There was no visitation by request. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in Lindsay’s Funeral Home Chapel, 194 Kings Street, Windsor. Rev. Bill Gibson officiated. A private family burial was held in the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Falmouth. The family would like to thank the Nova Scotia RCMP Veteran's Association for the support we have received throughout Bud's illness.
