Pictou lost a kind and caring gentleman when Frank Baird Reginald Murdock, 86 years, passed away quietly in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on Sunday, November 30, 2014. He started working in the family business, Murdock Meat Market, at an early age, and worked there until the store closed in the early 1990’s. He and his wife, Norma also operated a taxi service for 20 years. Frank finished his working career at the Caribou Provincial Park as supervisor. Through the years he served his community as a Reservist in the North Nova Highlanders, and a volunteer Fire Fighter, Town Councilor and Deputy Mayor for the Town of Pictou. He will also be remembered for his many weekly visits to the senior homes in Pictou with his canine companion, Marvie. Frank is survived by his partner and primary care giver, Helen “Huddy” Patterson and her son, Terry “TJ” Farrell; his sister-in-law, Sally (Winchester) Murdock and also his loving nieces and nephews, Vicki (Bobby) Campbell, Cathy LeBlanc (Gordon MacAloney), Michael (Sherri) Murdock and Shelley MacKenzie, all of Pictou; Allison Williams, Brian and Lindsay MacQueen of Georgetown, Ontario; and many great nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by parents, Stutson “Tut” and Sarah “Sadie” (nee MacLeod) Murdock; his wife of 47 years, Norma Jean MacDonald and his brothers, Donnie and Stewartie. Thanks to the CCA’s, Nurses and staff of the VON; Dr. Farrell and staff at Palliative Care; Dr Ellaurie, Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Aberdeen Hospital. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 11 AM Thursday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Rev. Iona MacLean officiating. Burial will be in Haliburton Cemetery. Family Flowers only please.
