It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Gerald Clement Mauger, who passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, following a long battle with cancer.
Born in North Sydney on Nov. 15, 1941, he was the son of the late Clement and Blanche (Courtney) Mauger. Each day he faced his illness with the utmost of courage, dignity and compassion for those loved ones that cared for him throughout his battle.
He spent his entire career working on the sea. In his early days on the lake boats, and later achieving his long strived for ambition of chief engineer. He travelled to many locations throughout the world by vessel, and was truly a man with a great work ethic to whom others learned from and many looked up to. He was also a loyal and hardworking Marine Atlantic employee for 30 years in both PEI and North Sydney/Newfoundland. He was a lifelong member of the Royal Albert Lodge and Victory chapter.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elma, daughter Bonnie (Jeff) MacDougall, Riverview, N.B., and son Paul, Boulardarie. He was a loving grandfather to Billy, Ashley, Johnathan and Joshua. The eldest son of six children, he was brother to Lillian Ridgewell, Ken (Elsie), Judy (Sheldon) Allen, Brian (Yvonne) and Patsy (Rick) Zulik; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Verna.
Visitation for Gerald Mauger will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, from 1-3 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, at 3 p.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Philip MacCormick officiating. The burial will take place at a later date.
Donations in Gerald’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.
