Passed away in Halifax, NS, December 18, 2014, at the age of 72. Predeceased by her parents Gerald and Marie (Dower) Maloney, she leaves to mourn her devoted husband Ged, her daughters Sheila Barry and Diana (Barry) Mueller of Toronto, her grandchildren, Miriam, Sophie and Lydia, her brother Gerry Maloney, her dear cousin Mary Philpott and sister-in-law Joan Bennett, as well as other relatives and friends. Mary was born in Grand Falls and attended Notre Dame Academy and St. Michael's High School, later completing undergraduate and graduate studies at Memorial University with further studies at Dalhousie University in Halifax. Her first teaching duties were in New Haven, Connecticut and Halifax. In 1968, Mary became a member of the Faculty of English at Memorial University where she taught for 33 years. She loved teaching and those she taught. Throughout her career, students and colleagues valued her dedication and friendship. In 2003, she and Ged moved to Halifax. A little less than four years ago Mary was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, a condition she accepted with uncommon grace. In June of this year she entered St. Vincent's Nursing Home where she resided under the care of the dedicated staff until her passing. Mary was a loving mother, a constant and understanding friend, the very soul of kindness. May her sweet spirit and gentle soul rest in peace.
