It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Kathleen MacDonald. Kathleen passed away at the Palliative Care Unit of Cape Breton Regional Hospital Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, with her loving family at her side.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Monica (Burke) McNeil and was a member of Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay.
Kathleen worked her entire career in healthcare services; working at St. Joseph’s and the Glace Bay Community Hospitals as a CNA and later as a pharmacy assistant, she also worked as a physio aide at the Glace Bay Physiotherapy Clinic and retired from there in 2012. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing softball, darts with the McKay’s Corner league, bowling, skating and spending time with her family.
She will forever be remembered by her family and friends as a very loving, caring and pleasant person who always had a smile and contagious laugh for everyone.
Kathleen will be sadly missed by her loving spouse, Alex McIntyre, Glace Bay; daughters, Cathy, Petawawa, Ont. and Shelly Murphy, Johnstown, Ont.; and their father Gerard MacDonald, Reserve Mines. She will also be missed by granddaughter Megan Murphy, Johnstown, Ont.; sisters, Nora McNeil, Janet (Robert) King, Cecilia Kennedy, all of Glace Bay; brothers, Robert (Betty), George’s River, Raymond (Mary), Sudbury, Ont. and Herbie (Shirley) Glace Bay; numerous nieces, nephews and friends, especially life-long friend Blanche Wilson.
Besides her parents, Kathleen was also predeceased by her brother Billy.
In keeping with Kathleen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be this evening (Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014) from 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
The funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, in Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Followed by interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Kathleen, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center or a charity of choice.
