We the family regret to announce the passing of Judith Anne Bonnell, 62, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and special sister-in-law, on Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Judy was born in North Sydney on Jan. 14, 1952, the daughter of the late James and Anita (Devine) Kelly.
Judy was a member of the Gospel Hall Assembly in Sydney Mines. Judy trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour. She was a former employee of Woolco, Irving Oil Company and later Zellers in North Sydney. Judy loved to crossstitch and was a wonderful entertainer and photographer, leaving the family with a lot of memories.
She is survived by her husband Melvin Bonnell, North Sydney; daughter Heather (Aubrey) Kelly, Langley, B.C. and son Mark (Gwen), Grand Prairie, Alta.; her grandchildren, Oliver, Georgia, Declan, Owen, Findlay, Chloe, Tonda and Jade; her sister Linda (Duncan) Conrad and brother Paul (Ann) Kelly, both of Charlottetown, P.E.I. She is also survived by her in-laws, Howard (Judy) Bonnell, Claude (Phyllis) Bonnell, Derek (Shirley) Bonnell, Mildred (Lorne) Jennex, Art (Vicki) Bonnell, Ray (Elayne) Bonnell and Lou (Mary) Bonnell and their families. Judy is also survived by her niece Stephanie and nephews, Scott, Leonard, Keith and by very special grandnieces, Meghan and Ainslie MacDonald.
Besides her parents, Judy was predeceased by her sister Alice, a brother Keith, her grandson Harry, her father and mother-in-law Lewis and Beatrice Bonnell.
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care, 4th Floor at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for “a job well done.”
The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Gospel Hall, 125 Yorke Street, Sydney Mines, with David Swan, Freddie Bartlett and Matthew Swan officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Family flowers only. Donations in Judy’s memory may be made to An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, through the Regional Hospital Foundation, at 45 Weatherbee Rd., Suite 209, Sydney, N.S., B1M 0A1.
