It is with heartfelt sadness that we the family, announce the passing of Donald Neil MacVicar on Dec. 25, 2014, at home.
In his younger years Donald was in the Signal Corp of the Canadian Army and was also in the Signals Band; then he worked in the coal mines before moving to Ontario to work for Beaver Engineering. Before retiring, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources on a grant, then owned Don’s Auto Body Repairs and Bay Glass and Screen where he worked alongside his wife Sharon.
Donald is survived by his wife, Sharon Louise MacVicar (Rolfe); daughter, Sherry Lea MacVicar; son, Keith MacVicar (Chantelle); grandchildren, Amber, Ont., Ross (Kendra), Nicole (Ryan), Santanna and Dylan all of N.S.; great-grandchild, Callie Nicole Cann of N.S.; brothers, Angus and Robert; sister, Sandra.
He was predeceased by parents, John Elmer and Effie Ann (MacPherson) MacVicar; brothers, Garfield and Phillip MacVicar.
Following Donald’s wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St, Glace Bay. There will be a private family graveside service at a later date.
Donations in Donald’s memory can be made to a charity of one's choice.
