We regret to announce the passing of our loved one, William Edward Johnston, on Monday, Jan. 5, 2015, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on Nov. 12, 1938, he was the only son of the late George Frederick and Mary Margaret (Wolstenholme) Johnston. He was a member of the Salvation Army church in Sydney. He worked for many years with Devco, retiring due to ill health.
He leaves behind to mourn his only son, Trevor (Jaymee), and grandchildren, Madison and Memphis, Edmonton; sisters, Agnes (Edison) Howatson and Sarah Johnston, and his nephew, and best friend, Thomas 'Tommy' Johnston, who was his caregiver, and lived at his home; niece, Colleen Brown, her children, James (Shylo), their son Hunter, and Justin and Mariska in Sydney Mines. He is also survived on his wife’s side by niece, Vanessa Moore; nephews, Vaughn Balderson and Jeremy Bishop and sisters-in-law, Lauretta (Ira) Balderson and Sarah Bishop.
Besides his parents, Billy was predeceased by his loving wife, Sandra MacKay in 2003 and her parents, Lawrence and Urenia MacKay.
His family will receive visitors in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, at 1:p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015. A celebration of his life will take place at 2 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, with Major Kent and Dena Hepditch officiating. The burial will be held at a later date.
Donations in Billy’s memory may be made to the Salvation Army Community Church; Family Services.
