Elizabeth Virginia (Virgy) Dowling (nee Morrison) passed away peacefully on Jan. 8, 2015, at the Chinook Care Centre in Calgary, Alta. at the age of 93 years.
Virgy was born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Kathleen (MacKinnon) Morrison.
Virgy is survived by her son, Dennis Dowling (Debbie McCaffrey), Calgary, Alta.; her sister, Sr. Teresa Morrison CND, Baddeck, N.S.; her brothers, David Morrison (Geneva), Hamilton, Ont., Patrick (Lindy) Morrison, Alliston, Ont. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Dowling (Edward Bays); great-granddaughters, Anna, Kimberley B.C., Katie Dowling (Robert Halliday) and great-grandson, Tyson, Annapolis Valley, N.S.; Amy Dowling, Sydney N.S., Desiree (Don) Bruno; great-grandchildren, Nya and Dominic, Calgary, Alta. and Tyrel Roe, High Prairie, Alta.; and her daughter by choice, Sadie (Sally) Gillis of Sydney, N.S. and other numerous relatives.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis Vincent Dowling (1951); son, Brian A. Dowling; sisters, Sr. Mary C. Morrison CND, Sr. Kathleen Morrison (Martyrs); her brothers, Ramsay, Ralph and John and sisters-in-law, Teresa 'Tessie' Morrison and Marilyn Morrison.
After graduation from Mount St. Bernard College in Antigonish she began working for Trans Canada Airlines (now known as Air Canada) until her retirement in 1985.
Virgy enjoyed working in the airline industry and travelled all over the world throughout her career and even more so in her retirement years.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to her special care giver, Chona Galivo of Signature Care and the staff at Chinook Care Centre for the excellent care she received while she resided there. We would also like to thank Father Bob of St. Mary's Cathedral, Calgary, Alta., who administered the sacrament for the sick.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
