Mary 'Mamie' Elizabeth Delphina (nee Chisholm) Rogers passed away at the Garden Home in Charlottetown, P.E.I. on Jan. 14, 2015, age 81.
Mamie was born Dec. 24, 1933 in Heatherton, N.S., daughter of the late Alexander Christopher and Mamie (Fraser) Chisholm. Mamie’s early years were in the care of “Momma and Daddie”, Jack Dan & Mary Anne Chisholm. She spent most of her adult life in Sydney. She was trained as a certified nursing assistant and worked until her retirement from the MacGillivray Guest Home, where she was known for her hard work, caring nature and sense of fun. Mamie moved to Charlottetown in 2006 to be closer to her family. She will be remembered as a maker of biscuits, “let’s play cards or darts all night”, a keeper of “all the family history and stuff” and very much a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Mom was an amazing woman, who despite many hardships always found the joy and fun in life. She was a woman of compassion and a second Mother and Nana to many.
Mamie is survived by her son, Sandy and daughters, Virginia (Brian) Gee and their children, Jeffrey (Jennifer), Curtis and Daniel; Delly (Jim) Keen and their children, Christina, Sarah and Emily and Theresa (Bruce) Andrews and their children, Evan and Derek. She is also survived by her brother, Pat, and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1968 and twin sister, Jovita in 2011. Also predeceased by brothers, Donald, Eugene, Colin, Lauchie and Ernie; sisters, Betty, Bernadine, Mary B, Sarah, Theresa and Helen (in infancy).
Visitation will be in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish on Monday, Jan. 19th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Charles Cameron presiding. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Heatherton.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Garden Home for making Mom comfortable the last few months. The love and care they provided was above and beyond, and will always be appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association, Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of choice.
