Eileen Vera Goff (1928-2014) Eileen Vera Goff passed away peacefully on December 19, 2014 at West Park Manor in Winnipeg, MB at the age of 86. Born in Mitcham, Surrey, England, Eileen was the daughter of the late Leslie and Doris (nee Beddoes) Attwood. Eileen survived the London Blitz during WWII as a teenager, going from an 11 year old school girl hiding in bomb shelters to a 17 year old factory worker assembling bullets for the war effort. She married the love of her life Raymond on February 15, 1947 in Croydon, England and honeymooned in Lillehammer, Norway. The family emigrated to Canada in 1957. Eileen resided all over Canada at Ray's RCAF postings. She knew a lifetime of hard work with jobs ranging from librarian to plant dept. manager. In 1985 she retired as Supervisor of the plant department in the Ottawa Hudsons Bay. Eileen and Ray moved to Westfield, Queens Co., NS, where they designed and built their retirement home next to the Medway River. Not to be forgotten are the many summers spent with the family in Jones Harbour, Shelburne Co, renovating the old fish plant office building into a charming seaside getaway! Eileen was an avid gardener, known locally as “The African Violet Lady”. She was a passionate fisher, catching a record breaking brook trout in Quebec and both Pacific and Atlantic salmon on her first attempts! She was frequently seen with her fly-rod, fishing for Atlantic Salmon in her favourite “Goff” pool adjacent to their home. She served in the Ladies Auxiliary at the Branch 87 A.L. Patterson Royal Canadian Legion, where Ray was an active member. They played darts in the Legion Winter league. She loved animals and nature, feeding the birds/feral cats and contributing regularly to the County Animal Shelter. Eileen was a great, passionate and very dedicated mother and wife. She was gifted and very creative. Her extensive hobbies included antiques, furniture upholstery and restoration, dressmaking (including costumes), winemaking, baking, wedding and cake decorating, crafting, reading, tropical fish, camping, boat restoration and cleaning of deer/fowl presented by her sons :) In 2006, on the passing of her husband, she moved to Winnipeg, MB to live with her daughter Yvonne. She is lovingly remembered by her daughters: Yvonne (Bernie) Kash, Winnipeg, MB; Gillian (Jim) Nelson, Campbell River, BC; her sons: Trevor (Judy) Goff, Lower Queensbury, NB; Terence (Bonnie Riley) Goff, Saint John, NB; Alan (Kathy) Goff, Washington, DC; 10 grandchildren and 7 great–grandchildren. Donations may be made in her memory to the local SPCA or the South Shore Regional Library. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial is planned in Winnipeg on January 24th, 2015.
