Bernadette MacDonald (nee Campbell)
Lieu de décès : Glace Bay
Date de décès : 19 janvier 2015
After a long life lived well, our mother, Bernie MacDonald passed away peacefully on Jan. 19th, 2015 at Seaview Manor in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Bernie was a former resident of St. Agnes Ave. and a proud member of the former St. Agnes Parish in New Waterford. She was the youngest of her family and the last surviving member. Bernie was 98 years of age.
Originally from Whitney Pier, Bernie moved to New Waterford in 1940 when she married Charles (Piper) MacDonald (1913-1987). Here they happily built their life and raised a family. She served her community as a lifelong member of the Catholic Women's League and was also a member of the St. Agnes Choir. Proud of her Scottish heritage, she was a member of the Gaelic Society and enjoyed singing in Gaelic. Mom was also a member of the Pensioner's Club. Mom loved to knit, to dance, to play cards and, of course, to skate. She loved a good time and lots of laughter. Bernie was blessed with a positive outlook toward life and a cheeky sense of humor. She always exhibited quiet dignity and was a shining example of courage for her family. Throughout her life she was blessed with great friendships and a loving family.
Bernie will be fondly remembered by her two daughters: Sheila (John) MacDougall of East Dalhousie, N.S. and Ann (Ed) Thurmeier of Calgary AB.; her four grandchildren, Lowell MacDougall, Scott, Ross and Katharine Thurmeier and five great-grandchildren.
As she so often said, "I've had a good life."
Mom received excellent care at Seaview Manor and for this we are thankful. Special thanks to Aunt Frances Campbell and her girls for their love and caring support.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Her funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 24, at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church, Mt. Carmel Ave. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery with a reception at St. Leonard Parish Hall on Convent Street immediately afterward. All are invited to attend.
Donations in her memory to any charity would be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.
