Peter Ives

Peter Ives

Peter Lewis Ives of Hanwell NB passed away peacefully at the Palms West Hospital in Loxahatchee FL on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the age of 66. Born in New Glasgow NS, he was the second son of James Eastwood Ives and Margaret Winnifred (Boutilier) Chapman.

Peter’s family moved to Amherst NS when he was a young boy and there he completed his schooling and entered the workforce. Peter’s favorite employment was with Ducks Unlimited (DU) Canada. He was extremely proud to have served over twenty years conserving and restoring wetland in the Maritime region. He began at the Amherst office and later relocated to Fredericton NB where he was working as a construction supervisor when he was forced to retire from DU for health reasons. Within two years, Peter’s condition improved and he was able to work for another decade as a sawyer at Lud-San Enterprises of Hanwell.

Peter was always an outdoor enthusiast who loved to fish and hunt. When his health declined and these sports became too strenuous for him, he took up motorcycle riding and it became his passion. He never passed up a chance for a ride on his Harley, whether it was rain or shine. During his recovery, Peter also took up custom picture framing for a pastime. This hobby eventually grew into a small part time home based business called Picture Improvements that flourished for over fifteen years on the Hanwell Road.

Following retirement in 2006, Peter and his wife Fern spent six months of every year in the Glades RV Resort outside Moore Haven, FL where they continued to meet many wonderful people and make lasting friendships. No matter how Peter was feeling, he had a smile for everyone. He was a happy, fun loving person who will be remembered for his good nature and eagerness to help others.

Peter is survived by his wife Fern (Robinson) Latham; son Brent Ives, daughter-in-law Chantel, and granddaughters Gracie and Taylor of Waasis NB; sister Kathy Purdy (Gary) of Lawrencetown NS; brother Jamey Ives ( Judy) of Toronto ON; half-brother Tim Chapman (Alison) of Amherst NS; step-father Allison Chapman of High-Crest Nursing Home in Springhill NS; three step-sisters Alison Arsenault (Bill) of Pictou NS, Carolyn McKay of Merrigomish NS, and Virginia Boudreau ( Donald) of Amherst NS; and one step-brother Borden Chapman of Dartmouth NS.

Cremation took place at Palms West Funeral Home and Crematory, Royal Palm Beach, FL.

Everyone is invited to attend an informal reception on Sunday Feb 8th from 2-5 at the Fredericton City Club located at 830 Hanwell Road in Fredericton NB to say "Farewell to Peter". Come prepared to share some stories and refreshments.
