Jean Mills (Fudge)

Jean Mills (Fudge)

Date de décès : 20 février 2015

With saddened hearts we wish to announce the passing of Jean (Fudge) Mills, 77, on Friday February 20th. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her husband of 53 years and her three daughters. Jean was born in Corner Brook in 1937. She is survived by her loving husband, Archie; her children, Cindy (Dan), Jennifer (Les) and Joanne (Steve). She will be remembered by her grandchildren, Sarah, Ian, Allison, Erin, Simon, and Clara. She was predeceased by her parents, Baxter and Susan Fudge, and her brother, David. She is also survived by her sisters, Sylvia, Phyllis, and Paulette and brothers, Fred and Derek. She worked in various clerical positions at Bowater Paper Ltd. in Corner Brook from 1955 to 1962 before settling into her role as a full time Mother after Cindy was born. It was in this role that she excelled. She was an active supporter and enabler for her daughters' busy school, social and athletic endeavors. In addition to being a cheerleader and chauffeur, she taught Sunday school at the 1st United Church in Corner Brook and was a "Brown Owl" for her children's Girl Guide unit. After her children started leaving the nest, she began playing bridge as well as curling and skiing, both downhill and cross country. She became a very avid skier and after Archie retired, they spent most of their winters at the Blow-Me Down X-country trails. They skied up to 3-4 times a week right up until the winter she moved to Nova Scotia in her 75th year. While raising her daughters she was an excellent sewer and knitter. She made high school grad dresses for both Cindy and Jennifer and knit beautiful sweaters for all of her grandchildren. But she will be mostly remembered by so many for her beautiful Christmas stockings that she knit and personalized for all of her children, sons-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and their families. She must have knit over 30 of these beautiful stockings over the years. She will be with all of us in our homes when these stockings are hung each Christmas season. Jean took great joy, over the last 20 years, in being a grandmother. She was actively involved in helping raise her 6 grandchildren whether it be coming to stay at her daughters homes so they could have a night or weekend away with their husband, baking cookies with them, or through her regular birthday gifts of "fragile dolls" for her granddaughters. "Grandma" loved to give her grandkids baths, sing them special songs and read them stories. Even near the end of her life, she always smiled when one of her grandchildren came to visit. Her family would like to acknowledge and show their appreciation to the caring and competent caregivers that were involved in Jean's care for the last two years, including Dr. Ken Rockwood, Tina McNamara, Dr. Veronik LePage and our special caregiver, Brenda Foley. A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 24th at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax from 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in her home town of Corner Brook, NL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or to the Corner Brook 1st United Church development fund. Online condolences and stories can be shared at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
