WIGHT, Gordon Richard (CD) – age 77 of Greenwood, Kings Co., passed away February 24, 2015 in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Yarmouth, he was a proud son of the late James and Lillian (Seed) Wight. Gordon served in the R.C.A.F. for 25 years. He was posted in Zweibrucken, Germany, Moncton, NB, Cold Lake, AB, Baden-Soellingen, Germany and finally in Greenwood, NS. He also served time with NATO forces in Sardinia. He was awarded The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal (1977) Canadian Forces Decoration and Clasp. He served in Operation Morning Light in the Search and Recovery of Russian satellite Cosmos 954 in Canada’s Northwest Territories in January 1978. During his life, Gordon worked as a photographer, a butcher and a computer software retailer. He travelled extensively, well into his senior years, visiting Israel with his partner Dottie and making many friends across Canada and in the United States of America. He lived life according to his own wishes and even though his stubbornness sometimes backfired, being true to himself always made him happiest. We will always remember and hold dear his ready smile, his odd sense of humour and his easy laughter. Gordon will be profoundly missed by his daughter, Lillian (Sean) of Bonnyville, Alberta; son, Vincent (Charmaine) of Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co.; son, Paul of Nictaux, Annapolis Co.; grandchildren Eric and Bailey of Middleton, Annapolis Co., and Nakayla of Lunenburg Co.; brother, Stanley (Katherine) of Dartmouth, Halifax Co.; stepson, Joshua Shlomiuk of Herzliya, Israel and stepson, Mark Shlomiuk of Silver Spring, Maryland. He was predeceased by brothers Robert, James, Alex, Daniel and Edward; his former wife Connie (Dauphinee) and his partner Dolores Shlomiuk. Gordon never liked a fuss being made in his honour; for this reason and according to his own request, there was no memorial service. Gordon’s children are ever grateful to Dr. Paul MacLean and to the staff at Annapolis Royal Health Centre and at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Middleton.
