Jeffrey Gerald (Jerry) Lockhart of Skiff Lake N.B. passed away at Carleton Manor, Woodstock on March 1st, 2015 at the age of 91.

He was born in Woodstock July 18th, 1923, the son of S.J. (Jeff) Lockhart and Elva (VanWart) Lockhart.

He was predeceased by his parents, his stepmother Mae C. Coates of Moncton, his wife of 64 years, Marion (Wright) Lockhart, his brother Laurie Lockhart of London, Ont.; his sister Noreen Tucker of Orange, Ct.: his sister Lois Bradley and brother-in-law Dr. Roy Bradley of Burtts Corner, N.B.

He is survived by his daughter Lynn (Jack) Auld of Skiff Lake, his son David (Sharon) Lockhart of Skiff lake; his granddaughter Robin (Justin) Marks and great-grandsons Nicholas and Ryan of New Milford, N.J.; his grandson Christopher (Lisa) Lockhart and great-grandson Logan of Ottawa, brother-in-law, Edmund Tucker of Orange, Ct., sister-in-law Esther Lockhart of Oakville, Ont. and sister-in-law, Maxine Phinney of Fredericton as well as several nieces and nephews.

Jerry received his early education in Moncton and Montreal and obtained a BSc. in Forestry and Engineering from U.N.B. and was a long-time member of the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick.

During his school years, he was active in sports, particularly basketball, and also played English Rugby and was active in track and field and gymnastics. During his basketball career he played on a number of Provincial (N.B. & P.Q.), Maritime and Eastern Canadian Championship teams at all levels from midget to university. The high point of his career was with the U.N.B. varsity team of 1946 which won the Canadian Intermediate Championship. This team was inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 1978 and the City of Fredericton Sports Wall of Fame in 1993. Jerry was also inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame individually as the highest scoring center of that team. That record stood for over 30 years. His professional career spanned 47 years and began with the New Brunswick Resources Development Board in Fredericton where his work was primarily involved with preliminary investigations of hydro-electric sites on several N.B. rivers. He subsequently worked in consulting engineering with both the Power Corporation of Canada Ltd., Montreal and H.G. Acres Ltd. in Niagara Falls, Ont. He was also employed with the New Brunswick Electric Power Commission primarily in the investigation of hydro-electric resources in New Brunswick and he was the first Director of the New Brunswick Water Authority, the forerunner of the Dept. of the Environment. Following a five year term in the private sector, he became the Program Manager of the Canada New Brunswick Flood Damage Reduction Program and the Director of the Saint John River Flood Forecast Center with the Department of the Environment from which he retired to Skiff Lake in 1991.

Jerry was a long-time member of the Fredericton Rotary Club and was President in 1983-84. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, and gardening. For many years he operated a Christmas Tree Farm at Skiff Lake.

Jerry is resting at Scott's Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, N.B. with no visitation. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 6th at St. Mark's United Church, Canterbury at 2pm.
