It is with very heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and sister after a period of ill health on Monday, March 2, 2015, at Waterford Heights.
Born on Nov. 28, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Ruben and Rhodena (Maclean) Thorne.
Babe loved life and the outdoors. Remembered by many as an avid walker, she also enjoyed hunting rabbits, deer and moose, fishing trout, Atlantic salmon and mackerel. She was also a great skater, swimmer and a very talented crafter, doing stained glass, sewing, knitting and wicker caning. Over the years, Ivan and Babe enjoyed many games of cribbage with their friends John and Dolly MacDonald in Sydney and Sangaree.
Babe was a strong supporter of Riverview High School, being a student in its opening year. She remained in close contact with many of her fellow classmates and enjoyed getting together with them for their lunches.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ivan; her sons, Kenneth (Sylvia) Sydney River, Todd (Margaret) Sydney River and William (Lynette) Halifax and her two precious granddaughters, Suzanne (Paul) Ottawa and MacLean, Halifax; as well as sisters, Lillian, Jeanette and Mae.
She was predeceased by son, Allan and infant daughter, Jennifer Lynn and brother, Hubert.
As per Babe's wishes, there will be no visitation and her ashes will be spread on the picturesque Bras D'Or Lakes in Baddeck at a private family memorial which will take place at a later date.
She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of having her in their lives.
