SHAW, HAROLD A. "HAL"
1922-2015
Miramichi – Harold "Hal" Alvin Shaw, husband of the late Elizabeth R. Shaw, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Friday evening, March 6, 2015, at the age of 93. Born in Tomiko, Ont., on February 7, 1922, he was the son of the late Neil and Ethel (McGowan) Shaw.
Harold served Overseas as an Air Force Firefighter in the RCAF during WWII and made the Canadian Armed Forces his career, serving at numerous Bases over his 33 years of service. He was a fifty-five year member of the Royal Canadian Legion; a fifty-five year member of the Masonic Lodge, most currently the Miramichi Chapter #18 and a member of the Miramichi Shrine Club. He was United Church by faith.
Harold was an avid athlete who excelled at whatever he did over the years, and continued to keep himself in excellent physical condition. He was well known, and respected as a hockey player and golfer in the Miramichi, where for many years he also organized the noon hour shinny hockey at the Lord Beaverbrook arena.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra Higginbotham (Steven), of Trenton, ON, and Janet Shaw (Rob Greene), of Edmonton, AB; one son, Gary Shaw (Colleen), of Quispamsis, NB; three grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey, Mark; one great-grandchild, Charlee; and one sister, Marion Fisher, of North Bay, Ont.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth, in 2005; three sisters, Edith, Velma, Violet; and three brothers, Russell, Gerald and Gordon.
Visiting will be at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi on Tuesday, March 10th, from 2 to 4 pm. The funeral service will be held from St. Andrews United Church on Wednesday, March 11th, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, later in the spring. Please note - members of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon at 2 :30 pm for a Veterans Service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi Shrine Club or any charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.
