It's with broken and saddened heart at the age of 80, George B. McKinnon, born and raised in Groves Point, Cape Breton passed away peacefully in the care of Hospice Simcoe, Barrie, Ont. on March 7, 2015.
One of 11 children, George was born July 17, 1934. George was surrounded by family, when he decided to join his beautiful wife and children who had passed before him.
George, was a man very well liked, by all who met him. While growing up on a farm he always loved nature as it unfolded, always the nature enthusiast. Everyone had a great joy listening to his stories of him growing up on a farm. George always had a passion for the waters of the Bras d'Or Lakes. When he could, you could find him on his boat. George, all his life, was a body work repair and paint man, and was extremely good at what he did. George had a great love for everything that had surrounded him and was always a carefree man and believed in equal opportunity. He always encouraged others to follow their passion and dreams. He was a very open minded person and never discouraged anyone. He had an absolute charm about him, along with his quick wit and warmth. He left behind broken hearts when his soul decided to join God.
George was predeceased by his parents, Collin McKinnon and Denise (Joriete). His wife, Anne (Robinson); two sons, Gregory (24), Wendell and a daughter Karen (both in infancy). Two brothers, James & Joseph; two sisters, Elizabeth (Gamble) and Ella (Cameron).
George is survived by six children, Allie, George (Cindee), Linda (Kevin), Ann (Mike), Paula and Natalie (Jalissa); nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. George is also survived by two sisters, Colleen, Halifax, Denise, Ontario; brothers, Gilbert, California, Collin and Paul, both of Halifax and Byron, Victoria, B.C. Long term companion, Noreen Ferguson.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service for George will be held in St Joseph's Church in Bras d'Or, in the summer of this year and will be announced later.
