With great sadness, we the family of Theresa Marie Bannister, announce her passing, on Sunday March 8, 2015. Theresa was 83 years old.
Born in Mill Creek, Cape Breton, Theresa was the daughter of the late Patrick and Florence (MacIntyre) Prendergast.
She is survived by her sisters, Lillian Wilson, Ellen McRae, Kathleen Ross, Betty (Raymond) MacDonald and brother, Joseph Prendergast.
Theresa was predeceased by her husband, Gerald; brothers, Alexander, William, Joseph; sister, Mary (MacKinnon) MacNeil; brothers-in-law, Bert, Scotty, Allan, Bill and John. Theresa had many nieces and nephews who benefitted from, respected and valued the kindness and fun she brought to their lives.
Theresa loved to travel and also wintered in Florida for many years. She was a dedicated member of her church and enjoyed social gatherings with family and friends especially when there was good music, singing and dancing. She was a bridge player, square dancer, golfer, swimmer, reader and talented knitter, creating many beautiful gifts.
During her early working years Theresa was employed at Maritime Telephone and Telegraph and the Naval Dockyard. Theresa retired from CBC Halifax after 33 years having worked in public relations, as supervisor of the switchboard, and managing the CBC Credit Union and then Federal Savings.
For many years she lovingly cared for her family members most notably her father, mother and her husband. Her kindheartedness, sense of humour and friendship will be missed by the many whose lives she touched.
Cremation has taken place. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Dr., Halifax, Friday, March 13 at 10:30 a.m., with a reception to follow. Interment will be at St. Joseph Church Cemetery in Bras d’Or, Cape Breton at a later date.
The family would like to recognize and express gratitude to the employees of St. Vincent’s Nursing Home for their kindness and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home or the ALS Society of Nova Scotia.
