It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Conrad Newton, 85 years young, of Bras d’Or, at the Northside General Hospital, with his loving wife by his side, hand in hand.
Con is now at peace, and with the joys of his life, his two sons; Gordon and Glen who predeceased him.
Con, as people called him, was an avid card player, hunter and fisherman. He had a great love for music; mostly the harmonica, and told the best stories.
Con, in his early years, sailed the great lakes, for 16 years, then 12 years at Gordon MacLellan Wholesale, and finally retired from Memorial High School, after 19 years.
He leaves behind, his beautiful, strong wife of 64 years, Una (MacLellan) Newton; grandchildren, Terri (Chris), Tania (Troy), Tina (Jim), Lindsay and Conrad Glen; also six great-grandchildren.
Besides his sons, Con was also predeceased by his parents, Angus Newton and Nora Jane (Jessome) Newton, brothers, John Wille, Gordon, and Terry and his only sister Evelyan.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 11 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Burial will take place at a later date.
