Lieu de naissance : Donkin
Lieu de décès : Donkin
Date de décès : 17 mars 2015
It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of Alex MacMillan on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Alex was born in Donkin and was the son of the late Hayward and Elizabeth (Wibby MacLeod) MacMillan.
Alex was an electrician and worked construction in his early years before starting his 30 plus year career at the Sydney Airport. During his career he made many lifelong friends.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol (Smith) MacMillan; his daughter Karen (Kexing) Liu, Ottawa, and son Sandy (Janice), at home. He is also survived by his three treasured grandchildren, Taylor, Selena and Jordan. Also left to mourn are his siblings, Donald (Joan), Kevin (Lynn), Frances (Wayne); sisters-in-law, Lorna MacMillan and Shirley Smith and brother-in-law Willie (Dorothy) Smith and their families.
Alex was also predeceased by his brother Billie and by his father and mother-in-law Peter and Annie (MacDonald) Smith.
Alex will also be missed by his large extended family and faithful companion Max.
In his youth, Alex was a talented hockey and baseball player, later moving on to golf where he made many great friends. Alex continued his love of sport by following the athletic pursuits of the children of family and friends. Watching one of the kids play a TimBit hockey game was as exciting to him as an NHL game. Alex’s other passion was the “bungalow” on the Mira River. This is a place he enjoyed since he was a child when his parents first built their bungalow. Alex was happiest when he was there with a huge crowd of family and friends.
Funeral services for the late Alex MacMillan will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at St. Luke’s United Church, Donkin, N.S. at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bob Biggar and Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. A reception will follow at the church hall. Burial to follow at a later date.
Donations in Alex’s memory may be made to your charity of choice.
A special thanks to Dr. Laith Shimone, Dr. Cai Wadden, Dr. Kian Khodadad, and Dr. Jamie MacLean and the staff of 4C at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
