SMITH, Annie Mildred, The Meadows Manor, Yarmouth, formerly of Shag Harbour, Shelburne County passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at The Meadows at the age of 102. Born in Newellton, C.S.I. on June 16, 1912 she was the eldest daughter of the late Allison and Hazel (Doane) Newell. She was a member of the Shag Harbour United Baptist Church. She loved knitting, crocheting, lexicon and was devoted to her extended family and possessed a sharp memory throughout her life. She taught school in Newellton at the age of sixteen and later she taught in several other villages in Shelburne County, including two years in Shag Harbour in the early 1950’s. For many years she was secretary in the family business, R. I. Smith Co. Ltd. She is survived by son, Elnathan (Leilani) Smith; grandchildren, Carolyn Sears, Cindy Waybret; four great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; sisters, Arnetia Meahan, Saint John, N.B., Gladys Swimm, Clark’s Harbour. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert; two children in infancy; sisters Ruby, Myrtle; brothers, Denton, Bernard, Milton, Clyde; great great grandson, Sean Welland. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 24 at the Shag Harbour United Baptist Church, Pastor Phil Williams officiating. Burial in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
