It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Estella May 'Stella' Bartlett on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Arborstone Enhanced Care in Halifax.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Elsie May (Keight) Hyde. She was a faithful member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and being part of the Graham Unit, ACW. Stella loved doing crafts, especially ceramics and knitting. She was a very generous lady who loved giving things away. She also enjoyed bowling and bingo. Stella grew up and lived all her life in Sydney Mines and was well known in her community, until the last few years when she moved to Halifax to be closer to her children. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Stella is survived by her daughter, Lynda (Wallace) Caldwell, Bedford; her two sons, Ronald (Marlene), Tatamagouche and John (Doreen), Enfield; her grandchildren, Darlene, Jeff, Paul and Steven Bartlett, Jamie Stroh, Jennifer Caldwell and Justine Caldwell; two step-grandchildren, Darren and Marsha and her eight great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Sheila Hyde, Toronto and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stan Bartlett; a daughter, Elizabeth and granddaughter, Kimberley, her siblings Marjorie MacKinnon, Dorothy Hyde, Rose Crawford, George Hyde, Danny Hyde and Harold Hyde and a sister and brother who died in childhood, Lucille and Ronald.
The family would like to thank the staff at Arborstone for the kindness and support shown to our mother especially in the past week.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Stella will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Stacy Lemoine officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.,J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church or a charity of choice.
