Gwendolyn (Gwen) Mary Dorothy Dobbin

"When a journey ends, those who watched the wanderer bravely walk are left with their mourning, and their admiration for a courageous traveler who braved the storms of life's challenges and basked in the knowledge of her family's love."

This, in accordance with Gwen's wishes, is our acknowledgment of her having left us. We, the Dobbin family, have lost another of our own. Predeceased by her Sister, Deborah Geraldine, Gwendolyn Mary, Daughter of the late Paddy and Gwen (Blandford) Dobbin has finished her journey and leaves behind: Sister, Anne Dobbin, St. John's Newfoundland: Brother, Patrick Dobbin and Sister-in-law Lucy (Power) Dobbin, Seal Cove, Newfoundland: Brother, Bill Dobbin and Sister-in-law Kay (Crocker) East Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia: Sister, Elizabeth Dobbin and Brother-in-law Baxter Baker, Vancouver, British Columbia: Son, Colin Patrick Canary, Halifax, Nova Scotia: Niece, Erin Lorien Dobbin, Ottawa, Ontario: Niece, Deborah Dobbin and Husband Jason Van Meer, Grand-niece Lylah Kennedy Van Meer, East Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia: Niece Kimberly Dobbin and Husband Mike Coggins, East Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia: Niece Gillian MacDonald and husband Mark MacDonald, Halifax, Nova Scotia. Gwen was the best of us. She was the most giving and filled with a thoughtfulness which lent dignity and grace both to her life and any family gathering. The special joy of Gwen's life was her son, Colin, an artist of talent and purpose. Gwen's only regret was not to have remained long enough to witness the successes Colin will one day realize. On her behalf, and at her request, and in acknowledgment of the kindness and warmth so many health professionals freely gave to Gwen during her time, special thanks are sent to the very caring Dr. James Bentley: the compassionate Doctors, nurses and staff in the cancer clinic: the staff on 5A whose warmth and giving hearts made dark days so much brighter: the empathetic and always concerned nurses on the chemotherapy unit: the dedicated and thoughtful members of the Victorian Order of Nurses, the wise and gentle staff of Palliative Care and Continuing Care. We will chisel Gwen's name into the granite slab beside those of other family members who have gone ahead and, as with them, we will carve her name deep into our hearts and joyfully remember her time with us. We will speak of her often in memories laced with melancholy, tears joined with laughter and with the forever thankfulness for the treasure of having had her as one of us. Liturgy of the Word will take place at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 10 Maple Street, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on Wednesday, April 1st. at 10 am. Cremation has taken place. No flowers by request.
