On Thursday, March 26, 2015, heaven took another angel home, Carmel earned her wings and passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. She left behind many broken hearts.
Carmel, 81, of Sydney Mines, was born in North Sydney on Oct. 8, 1933, the daughter of the late Jack and Loretta (Boutilier) Russell. She was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney.
Carmel is survived by her brother William (Mildred) Russell, North Sydney, also by many nieces and nephews.
She leaves behind two special friends, Billy Howley and Annette Finlayson.
She was predeceased by her husband Alexander Hastie, brothers, Edward (Bridget) Russell, Johnnie (Louise) Russell and Ernest (Evelyn) Russell and her sister Mary Theresa (Louis) Gale.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Northside General Hospital for the wonderful care they provided.
There will be no visitation by request. A graveside committal service for Carmel will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
