It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Danny Nicholson, 92, on Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary Ann (MacNeil) Nicholson.
Danny lived most of his life in Dominion before moving to Tower Road with his daughter. He had a strong Catholic Faith and loved his church, St. Eugene’s, Dominion. Danny was a caretaker at the church and parish cemetery for many years.
He retired from No. 26 Colliery after 44 years of being employed as a coal miner. Danny loved reminiscing and telling stories about the old days in the coal mines. He also worked as a tour guide at the Miner’s Museum for 10 years. Danny loved his family dearly. Many a sunsets over Dominion Beach he watched with the love of his life, his wife, Jean (Vickers) Nicholson. Jean passed away in 2007.
Danny is survived by his two daughters, Danese O’Leary (Doug), Tower Road, Catherine Pastuck (Weldon), River Ryan; two sisters, Monica Binder, Shirley Nicholson; one brother, Jackie Nicholson (Sharon), all in Dominion; five grandchildren, Joseph, Christopher, Weldon, Daniel, Samantha, one great-grandchild, Bentley; nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Danny was predeceased by three sisters, Pauline McKeigan, Theresa Sullivan, Catherine ‘Sis’ Richard, two brothers, Joe, George and his little buddy, his dog, Eddie.
Visitation is Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Dan Boudreau is Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
