Surrounded by his family, Rev. James Allistar MacDonald passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 in Saint John.
Born on April 17, 1932 in Port Hawkesbury, Jim was the son of the late Effie (MacLean) and John D. MacDonald. Jim grew up in Westmount, graduating from Sydney Academy, Mount Allison University and Pine Hill Divinity College.
Jim's first church was North River Bridge, N.S. He subsequently served pastoral charges at St. Andrews United, Sydney; Montreal, P.Q.; Saint John, and Woodstock, N.B. He remained active for 55 years in the Ministry.
Jim was a very kind, gentle and humble man.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gwen (Bailey); his sons, Alan (Laurie) of Kitchener, Ont., Ross (Sharon) of Moncton and his daughter, Mary-Gwen (David) Alston of Grand Bay-Westfield. He was a very proud grandfather to his eight grandchildren, Sydney, Kelsey, Brett, Sarah, Alec, Ceileigh, James and Emily. He is also survived by his brother, Rev. Ian (Virginia) MacDonald of Fredericton, N.B, and his sister, Sheila (Rev. Jackie) MacDonald of Coxheath.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his older brother, Fraser (Paulette) MacDonald of Cornwallis, N.S.
Resting at Brenan’s Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Rd., West Saint John with visitation on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Brenan’s Bay View Chapel.
