Myrtle Helen Bateman (nee Thompson)
Myrtle was born on October 18, 1921 and passed away on May 2, 2015, leaving to mourn her passing her loving and devoted husband of seventy years, Donald; her children, Allen (Patti) of Regina, Dennis (Mae) of Sundre, Alberta, and Susan (Terry) Hunchuk of Buffalo Pound Lake; and many precious grandchildren, great- grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews. Myrtle was predeceased by her mother and father, Lillian and Truman Thompson; her older brother James Thompson; her younger sister Irene; and her beloved mother-in-law Rose Kain. Born in Outlook, Myrtle spent her entire life in Saskatchewan. As a young girl, Myrtle sang at many community events with her sister Irene and her cousin Olga. Myrtle obtained her Teacher's Certificate and while in her first teaching position at a one-room schoolhouse near Moose Jaw, Myrtle met and married Don. They settled in Moose Jaw, raised their family, and enjoyed many good times with square dancing friends and on the road in their motor home. In Moose Jaw's early years, Myrtle was involved with the Women's Institute, the YM/YWCA, the Saskatchewan Safety Council and church groups. Myrtle was a devoted mother and grandmother who took great pleasure and pride in her children. She kept a beautiful home, which was decorated with many of her own artistic creations, and she loved her garden. Her artistic talents started with oil painting, sketching and composite creations. Later the family enjoyed many of her pottery creations. Myrtle also wrote poetry throughout her life. Many of her culinary creations as well as traditional family recipes have been
adopted by family members. Myrtle had a deep and abiding faith that helped her deal with the challenges of diabetes and cancer. Her family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to the many wonderful caregivers who helped Myrtle over the years. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday May 7, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated. In living memory of Myrtle, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
