Shirley Dubè

Shirley Dubè

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Shirley Dubè, on Sat., May 9, 2015, with her family by her side, at the Halifax Infirmary, following a brief illness.
Born in French River, P.E.I., she was the daughter of the late Preston and Clare Harding. Shirley left P.E.I. when she was a young woman and lived in England, Shelburne, Chatham, Ontario and Halifax. She always loved to return to the island and was proud beyond words to tell you she was from P.E.I.
For 23 years, Shirley was employed by the Red Cross where she was a dedicated Home Support Worker. Shirley always went an extra mile to provide quality care and compassion. This appreciation was recognized by the Governor General with the award of the Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. Throughout her life, Shirley was a member of several branches of the CWL and the Lionesses.
A few years ago, Shirley moved to Northwood, where she enjoyed and loved working with her friends on the social committee and many other countless activities. She appreciated and enjoyed all of the services offered by Northwood and Access A Bus.
Shirley was a proud and loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Shirley was dedicated to her family and loved having as many of her family around her at family celebrations.
She is survived by Diane (Gary) Acker, Halifax, Cathy (Rick) Bernard, Truro, Ray (Marlene), Timberlea, Phil (Cheryl), Strathmore, Michelle (Elmer), Timmins, Steven (Christine), Digby, and Elaine (Ed), Ottawa. She will be sadly missed by her 14 grandchildren: Debbie, Dawn, Kelly, Edward, Cory, Tyler, Jillian, Natasha, Kevin, Stephanie, Melisssa, Alex, Jennifer and Julie; and her15 great-grandchildren. She taught us all to live by generosity and kindness and love. She is survived by her sisters, Pearl and Debbie (Halifax); brothers, Clair (P.E.I.) and Ron (Halifax); and sister-in-law, Jessie (P.E.I.); and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Ashley; brother, Lewis; sister, Vicki; and nephews, Jimmy and Ronnie.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (902-455-0531), on Tuesday, May 12, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at 10:15 a.m., at Northwood in the Shirley Bernstein room with reception to follow. There will be a private burial for family.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at the Hfx Infirmary 8-3. You went above and beyond.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Red Cross.
