It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Phyllis Matheson-O’Brien, age 51 of Glace Bay, announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of Norma and Ernie Roper and predeceased by her Ma and Da, Basil and Phyllis Pyke of Glace Bay.
Phyllis was a member of the Salvation Army. She was happiest spending time with her two precious grandchildren, Kale and Ella and her “fur baby” Chloe.
Phyllis was a proud Hockey mom spending many hours at the rink cheering on her son James. She loved spending her summers in Ben Eoin with friends and family. She was also an avid knitter and enjoyed knitting clothes for all the babies in the family. She was a friend to all and will be missed by many.
Surviving is her loving husband Robert whom she adored; her children, daughters Shondelle (Jonathan) Marion Bridge, Breanne (Jana) Glace Bay and son James at home; sisters Karen (PEI) and Linda (Glace Bay); brothers Kevin (Gwen) Glace Bay and Ernie (Fran) Glace Bay.
Phyllis is also survived by her “special sisters” Shirley (Dinky, recently deceased) Glace Bay and Karen (Richard) Mississauga, “special brother” Basil Jr (Allie) Ontario, paternal grandmother Anne Roper along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and her extended family, the O’Brien’s of Glace Bay.
Visitation for Phyllis will be held at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay, Monday, May 18 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, at the Salvation Army Citadel at 11 a.m., Captain Dennis Maybury officiating with Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Autism Society of Cape Breton.
