LIRETTE, WALTER E.
1919 - 2015
Walter Emery Lirette, 95, of Moncton, passed away on Monday May 18, 2015 at the Veteran’s Health Centre in Moncton, following a brief illness. Born October 30, 1919 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Louis and Angeline (Arsenault) Lirette.
Walter was retired from CN as a machinist and also an automotive mechanic at Westmount Esso for many years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper, woodworker, and enjoyed listening to music. He was a Veteran of W.W. 2 having served overseas with the 14th Field Ambulance stationed in England; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch No.6, Christ-Roi Golden Age Club, Life Member of International Machinist Association, and a former member of the CNR War Vets.
He is survived by three children: Claudette Doucet (late Albert) of Miramichi, Linda Bain (Dale) of Campbellton, and Gerard “Gerry” (Raymonde) of Shediac; five grandchildren: Joanne, Nancy, Lisa, Christopher, and Jennifer; six great-grandchildren: Michelle, Ashley, Nicholas, Samuel, Colton, and Carson; three great-great-grandchildren: Peyton, Ashlyn, and Jordyn; a sister, Sr. Thérèse Lirette, n.d.s.c. of Moncton; two brothers: Henri (Cecile) and Aurèle (Adèle) of Moncton; many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife, Victorine née Cormier (2003); a son, Bernard (1976); a brother, Léo; and six sisters: Jeanne Dupuis, Florida Dupuis, Yvonne Doyon, Florence Lirette, Anita Hébert, and Alice Gallant.
The family will receive condolences at the Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900). Visiting hours Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. only. The funeral service will be celebrated at Christ-Roi Roman Catholic Church, 300 Dominion Street, Moncton on Thursday May 21 at 11 am. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe.
In memory of Walter, a contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation (Veterans Unit) or I.W.K. Hospital Foundation or donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
The Veterans will hold a service of remembrance from the funeral centre Wednesday at 3:50 pm.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff and administration of the Veteran’s Health Centre the Manoir Notre-Dame, Dr. Jamie Stewart, Dr. Jacques Landry, and Aline Fougere for the excellent care and compassion given to our father.
