It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Jane MacDougall, age 83 on Friday, May 22, 2015, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Mom was born in Glace Bay on Sept. 17, 1931. She was the daughter of the late John B. and Mary (MacDonald) Almon.
Mom worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital until she married the love of her life, (Mose). After her own children were grown, Mary cared for the children of Mike and Roseanne Kennedy. She was known to them as 'Our Mary.' Mom was a CBer at one time and also an avid bingo player.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Mose, brother, Art, son-in-law, John Doyle, and her sister-in-law, Mary Aucoin.
She leaves behind to mourn her daughters, Debbie, New Waterford, Brenda, Glace Bay, and Frances, at home; sons, Alex and Joey, at home, and Gerard (Cathy), Nunavut. She is also survived by a sister, Donna (Mike) MacKinnon, Glace Bay; sisters in-law, Georgina (Clarence), Catherine (Dan J), Rita (Domenic), Ontario, Marguerite, Fort Eric; and her brother-In-law, Victor 'Vic' Aucoin. She also leaves to mourn her pride and joy, grandchildren, John (Mary), Caitlyn (Stefan), Daniel, Stephanie and Jessica; special nieces and nephews, Jason (Kerri), Amy, Craig, Diane, Geoffrey and Shanelle.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley, is Wednesday, 10 a.m. in St. Leonard Church followed by interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. The reception will be held in the Army/Navy/Air Force Hall, New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, palliative care, Red Cross or charity of choice.
