SEARS, Barbara Jean, 81, of Shag Harbour passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6 at home. She was the daughter of the late Reginald and Edna (Schrader) Whitman of Roseway. In her younger years she worked at the Roseway Hospital. After moving to Shag Harbour she became a member of the Shag Harbour United Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Historical Society, Cemetery Society, the secretary of the Women's Missionary Group and an Association Delegate volunteer. She is survived by her sons, Doug (Ella) of Canaan; Gary (Debbie) of Shag Harbour; daughter, Patricia (David) of Sandy Point; grandchildren, Jonathan, Melanie, Jordan, Jasmine, Julissa and Alex; great grandchildren, Ryan, Colin, Bradley, Natalie, Aiden and Avery; brother, Harry (Sheila) Whitman of Bridgewater; sister, Sylvia Goulding of Shelburne; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James; brother, Edward Whitman; grandson, John Fowler; and infant great grandson, Sean Welland. The funeral service was held, Tuesday, June 9, at the Shag Harbour United Baptist Church, Shag Harbour with Pastor Phil Williams officiating. Interment followed in the Old Farm Cemetery, Shag Harbour. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Woods Harbour/ Shag Harbour Volunteer Fire Department, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of your choice.
