Edmund Reid

WEST ADVOCATE – Edmund Sawlor Reid, age 69, of West Advocate passed away peacefully with great dignity, supported by his wife and children, at the Moncton City Hospital, on Friday, July 3, 2015 after a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Edmund was born in Berwick, the oldest son of the late W. Burnell and Edna (Sawlor) Reid. He spent his early years in West Advocate and later moved to Worcester, Mass. where he lived with his aunt and uncle, while attending university. His years spent with Margaret and Ralph Gowetz created a home away from home and a relationship that was enduring.
After receiving his accounting designation from Bentley College and MBA from Babson College, Ed moved to London, Ontario and began his 30 year career in finance and accounting. It was in London that he met the love of his life, Anne McLarty, who became his wife in 1972. They were blessed with the arrival of their children, Alison May and Andrew Wesley Duncan. The love within this family was fierce and tenacious.
The family made their home in Oakville, Ontario and after Ed and Anne retired, they moved to West Advocate.
Ed was a thoughtful and reflective man who above all else, had a pure heart and genuine love for those in his life. He will be greatly missed.
Edmund leaves behind his wife, Anne; daughter, Alison May Reid Dawson, St. Thomas, Ont.; son, Andrew, and his wife, Sarah, Caledon, Ont. He was the cherished “Buppa” of their children, Austin and Adelyn. Also, survived by his brothers, George, and his wife Micki, and David, and his wife Mary, all of Halifax; Anne's sister, Mary Liz Bland; her brothers, Colin, Archie, Angus and Ian and their spouses, all of Ontario; his mother's sister, Jean (Sawlor) Eisner, Berwick; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by Anne's parents, Duncan and May (Moffat) McLarty, London, Ont.
Visitation took place on Monday, July 6, 2015 at the Advocate Baptist Church, where funeral service was held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, Pastor Christina McCallum officiating. Burial in the Advocate Cemetery. Reception followed at the Advocate Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Ed's memory to the Advocate Cemetery Corporation (Perpetual Care Fund) or to a charity near and dear to your heart. Arrangements entrusted at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Online condolences at www.smithsfuneralhome.com
