Everett Blenner-Hassett

Everett Lyle Blenner-Hassett, age 79, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Lyle was born on June 5, 1936, at Maple Creek, SK to Arthur Henry “Harry” & Sadie Margaret Blenner-Hassett. He took his schooling in Maple Creek and graduated from Grade 12 in 1954. At the age of 19, Lyle left the farm and moved to Swift Current, where he worked and articled for Stark & Marsh. He wrote his final CA exam in the fall of 1960, obtaining his Chartered Accountant CA designation. He then worked as an income tax auditor with the Dept. of National Revenue (now CRA), from the fall of 1960 to the fall of 1961. He then moved back to Swift Current, where he again worked with Stark & Marsh, becoming a partner in 1966 until his retirement in 2001. He continued to work seasonally each spring, until this past spring. Lyle married Marina Norman on August 3, 1963, in Moose Jaw, SK. They were blessed with two sons, Dale in 1965, and Dwayne in 1969. Lyle took great joy in times spent with his family, with Marina and the boys, then later as the family grew to also include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lyle & Marina loved to travel, and especially their annual January trip to Hawaii. Some of his other hobbies and interests included spending time with family and friends and serving at his church and service clubs. He was an avid follower of the Swift Current Broncos and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Lyle also served as Executive and Treasurer of the Swift Current Indians Baseball: was a member of the Elmwood Golf & Country Club: served as Director, Treasurer and President of the Swift Current Kinsmen Club, 1961 to 1976: and the Swift Current Kiwanis Club, 1977 to 2015. Lyle is survived by his wife, Marina; his sons, Dale (Deborah) and Dwayne (Tara); his grandchildren, Kimberley, Allison, Caroline; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Dustin, Aisha, Elias and Emery; and by his brothers, Jim (Fran), Larry (Judy), Dennis (Bernice) and Rick (Bonnie). He was predeceased by his parents, Harry & Margaret Blenner-Hassett.
The Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 1:00 pm from the Full Gospel Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor David Clarke and Rev. Sid Chalmers officiating. The pianist for the service was Mildred Friesen. “It is Well with My Soul”, “Amazing Grace”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “I’ll Fly Away” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Lil Martens. Tributes were shared by his Grandchildren, Kimberley, Allison and Caroline Hassett: his sons, Dale and Dwayne: his brothers, Dennis and Rick: and by Glenn Budd and Carolyn Kenzie on behalf of Stark & Marsh. Special music was brought by Allison Blenner-Hassett singing, “The Giving”. Honorary pallbearers were Jake Friesen, Dwayne Blenner-Hassett, Don Bedwell and Dale Blenner-Hassett. The Private Family Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Lyle’s brothers: Jim, Larry, Dennis and Rick: Lloyd Cowan and Ryan May. In memory of Lyle Blenner-Hassett, donations made to the El Salvador Scholarship Project c/o Full Gospel Church would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
