MACUMBER, Arthur “Art” - Age 75 of Truro passed away peacefully on July 8th, 2015. Born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Alvah and Laurena (Logan) Macumber. Art was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Normal College and Acadia and St. Mary's Universities. A teacher, he taught at Hants West Rural High, Central Colchester High School, J. Lloyd Crowe Secondary School, Trail, B.C., Cobequid Educational Centre and the Nova Scotia Teachers College. After retiring from teaching, Art worked for 11 years with TayMac Tours of Halifax – imparting his knowledge of the Maritimes and its history to many American tourists. He was a former member of the Truro Masters Swim Team. Art was involved in many local clubs and societies including the Colchester Historical Society, Golden K, Little White Schoolhouse Society and Hubtown Theatre. He is survived by his wife Heather (Marsh); daughters Sarah (Arfon) Hughes, Wales and Jill Macumber, Halifax; grandchildren Ben and Ellen Hughes; brother Francis; niece Alison Macumber. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother David and sister Patricia. Although Art was only at Debert Court for a short time the family would like to extend their thanks to the staff there for their compassionate care – especially nurses Bev and Karen. Many thanks also to the VON team who helped care for Art the past three years. A celebration of Art's life will take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 3 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Reception to follow. Family Interment in Watson Cemetery, Truro. Family flowers only. Donations in Art's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Society (Maritime Region) or the VON.
