Sonja Nesseth

Sonja Nesseth

Sonja Natalie Nesseth passed away peacefully on July 23, 2015 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon only weeks after finding out she had lung cancer and days after finding out it had spread to her brain.
Sonja was born in the Fosterton area on April 11, 1931. She attended school at Scotia and in Cabri, then took teacher training at Moose Jaw Normal School, after which she taught at Pittville School. She met Chester Nesseth and they were married on July 6, 1950. She then began her life as a farmer. She loved the farm and most everything that went with that lifestyle. Gardening was therapeutic and life-sustaining; she always had many preserves to last through the winter months. She loved to cook and anyone visiting could barely get in the door before they were offered food or beverage. She enjoyed her friends very much, playing cards and socializing was important to her. The cabin at Cypress Hills was a treasured retreat when farming allowed in the summer, and curling was her favorite pastime in the winter months.
When she and Chester retired, they moved to Swift Current where she enjoyed bowling and knitting. She was an avid fan of the Blue Jays, and rarely missed a game. I am sure she will continue to cheer for them now (they need all the help they can get some games).
Soon her grandchildren arrived and she enjoyed them very much. Her family always came first, she loved deeply. Sonja will be missed very much, especially by those who survive her, namely her daughter Roxanne (Todd) Angell, her grandson Tyler Mateychuk and granddaughter Danielle Mateychuk, sister-in-law Doris Thoreson along with all her extended family and special friends.
Sonja is predeceased by her parents, Reidar and Margit Thoreson, her daughter, Sandra Ann, her husband, Chester Nesseth, her brothers Rudolph Thoreson, Harry Thoreson and sister Margit Knutson & brother-in-law Gilbert Knutson.
“Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.”
A private Family Graveside service took place at the Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery in the Hazlet district.
