HOUGH, JOHN EMERSON
August 3, 1924 - August 3, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Emerson Hough on August 3 2015 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. John was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on August 3 1924.
John will be missed by his wife of 60 years Maria Carlota (nee Vieira da Fonseca) of Oakville, Ontario, son John (Tina Canzani) of Markham, Ontario, daughter-in-law Wendy of Burlington, Ontario, grandchildren Katherine, John Carlos, and Madison, sister-in-law Stella Maris Thompson (Ronald) of Paso Robles, California, nieces and nephews in Brazil and the U.S., and cousins and friends across Canada, Brasil, the U.S. and England.
He graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1945 with a B.Sc.(E.E.) having received a Beaverbrook Scholarship which helped him attend London University which he graduated from in 1949 having obtained an M.Sc. He was with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals after he graduated from UNB.
John began his career working at Brazilian Traction, Light & Power Co. in Sao Paulo, Brazil where he met his wife. Returning to Canada, he worked at a number of companies including Alcan, CIP, The Royal Trust Company, and Woody Gundy. He finished his career working at Midland Doherty Limited where he had the great pleasure of working with his son Michael,
John lived in Montreal for 24 years before moving to Oakville in 1979. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his backyard garden, and playing tennis.
John was predeceased by his father, John in 1982, his mother, Emily Florence (nee Hunter) in 1986, his son, Michael in 2010, daughter, Mary in 1959, and sister, Emily Jane in 1935.
Our thanks to the staff at OTMH, at Wyndham Manor, CCAC, and TLC for the care that they provided over the last 15 months. Also a special thank you to Dr. J. R. Inkster for 34 years of care, as well as Maria, Veselka, and Georgi for their love and support.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s or Cancer Society of your choice.
Family will receive friends on Thursday August 6th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Oakview Funeral Home, 56 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville. A funeral service will take place Friday August 7th at 11 a.m. at Oakview Funeral Home. An interment will take place at a later date in Fredericton.
