Bernard Joseph 'Meece' McCormick

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Bernard 'Meece' McCormick, at home on Aug. 2, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Meece was a true Cape Bretoner, in his younger years he was an avid dart player, although his passions were hunting and fishing. He started off his career as a young man working at the Sydney Steel Plant as a crane operator. He then went on to become a commissionaire and after many years retired. He was a member of of Branch 138 Ashby Legion for 49 years.
Like a true steel plant worker, he was raised and lived in a company home, where he peacefully passed away with his loved ones around him.
In his retired years he could not get enough of the challenge of a good game of Tarabish.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Evans); daughters, Bernadette (Joe) Morrison, Anna McCormick, Marjorie (Jerry) Boyle, Catherine (Ken) Williams, Jeanette (Phil) Guimond, Patricia McCormick, Bernice (Dave) Parsons and Deanna; sons, Timothy McCormick, David (Allana), Gregory (Jen), Paul and Danny (Linda). Meece will also be greatly missed by his beloved 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Theresa (Brian) McKernan and many nieces, nephew, and close cousins, and extended family as well as his loyal furry companion, Holly.
Special thanks to all the VON nurses, especially Paul Letournal and Shannon McKinnon for going above and beyond when it came to caring for dad, also thanks to Mary Muise and staff of Pollett's Drug Store.
Besides his mother, Ann MacNeil, he was predeceased by a son in infancy, and his granddaughter.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
