Date de décès : 23 août 2015

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing on Aug. 23, 2015, of Donnie Ripley, 78 of Victoria Bridge, Grand Mira.
Donnie grew up on his grandfather’s farm on Cottage Road in Sydney. When he married Anne Colbert, the love of his life, he built a home on that farm and it became known as Harold Street Extension. Donnie was a carpenter, mechanic, businessman and a farmer. He ran Island Tune-up for over 30 years. Farming called to him and he moved to Mira in 1973 to start a small farm, raising everything thing from rabbits to cattle and everything between.
Donnie enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, skating, snowmobiling, cars and sports. While he was young he served with the Reserves for several years. Donnie loved his many adventures with his buddies including his many jeep trips to places like Wreck Cove, before there were roads, in their search for the best fishing spot.
Donnie was a well-known stock car driver on the old dirt track behind the airport. Donnie along with his partner Hughie MacQueen had earned the nick name “The Fat Boys”. They both won many races with Donnie being named Top Driver several times.
Donnie loved playing darts in the Grand Mira Dart League. While Donnie loved watching any kind of sports, hockey was always number 1 and no talking was allowed while Don Cherry was on.
Donnie is survived by his four children, Joan, Grand Mira; Donna (Chris) Brown, Upper Sackville; Brian (Lisa MacKeigan), Sydney River and Brenda, Edmonton, Alta.; sister, Kay (D’Arcy) McNabb, Glace Bay. Precious grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyle (Samantha Wieland), Fallon, Jessica, Brinna, Mary Jean and Tyler. Great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Sydney and Hayden. They were his shining light. He is also survived by an uncle, Gordon (Beatie) MacPherson, Sydney; sisters-in law, Mary (Joe) Matheson, Glace Bay, Clare Morrison, Halifax, Cecila Kuhn, Winstead, USA, Edith Ripley, Stratford; brothers-in-law, Tom (Joanne) Colbert, Grand Mira South, Percy Colbert, Catalone, Patrick (Butch) Colbert, Sydney, Don McCarron, Don Mills; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
