It is with heavy hearts and a profound grief that the family of Stephen Gregory Scott (47) announce his sudden and untimely passing on Monday, Aug. 31, 2015.
Steve was born in Dominion, Cape Breton to Carol (Ryan) and Jack Scott on Feb. 4, 1968. Steve was a graduate of the University College of Cape Breton and the University of Maine - Fort Kent. During Steve’s 17 year teaching career at St. Agnes Junior High School he enthusiastically volunteered as the girls soccer coach, girls basketball coach, boys “B” basketball coach, student leadership staff advisor, Grade 9 trip staff advisor, walkathon coordinator, sports awards coordinator, grade 9 closing coordinator, hockey coach and math team leader. Steve was devoted to his students in improving their academic achievements. Steve held high standards and worked tirelessly to see that all of his students had the opportunity to achieve those standards. Steve championed the value of inter-scholastic sport and devoted countless hours to coaching. This is evidenced by the number of Outstanding Service Awards which Steve received from the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation. Steve was an avid sportsman. He competed in baseball, basketball, soccer and hockey as a younger man. He was a catcher with the Glace Bay Alpines and formed many long lasting acquaintances through his baseball career. He represented N.S. at the Senior Men's Fastball Championships several times. Steve was true to his favourite sport teams - Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Pistons and New York Yankees. His favourite sport team without question was the St. Agnes Junior High Gators. Steve will be remembered by all for his authentic friendship and willingness to help no matter the circumstance.
He will be forever missed by his loving father Jack who enjoyed his Sunday car rides with Steve for lunch and tea biscuits; brothers, Kevin (Stephanie), David (Sherrie), Ken (Barb) and nephews and nieces, Kyle, Jane, Riley, Cameron, Ryan, Carolyn, and Nathan, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Steve has been reunited with his mom, Carol who passed away in the year 2000.
